+ Plan, organize, and manage multiple tooling projects of varying degrees of complexity in order to meet the tooling needs of the manufacturing operations of the plant.
+ Impact tooling for all parts manufactured by Aircraft Products.
+ Maintain a safe and healthy work environment to minimize injuries to employees, contribute to the SBU's permanent goal of improving safety performance, and demonstrate safety awareness both on and off the job.
+ Contribute to the PPG Quality Improvement Process by adopting a performance standard of ?Zero Defects? in all operations.
+ Provide leadership and training roles in the tool design and analysis process and to provide guidance for Tool Designers, CNC programmers, Toolmakers, CNC operators, CMM technicians and others in the tool fabrication and inspection process as needed.
+ Use models supplied by the customer or digitized data to design tooling and create machining programs and drawings for the fabrication of tools necessary for the manufacturing of aircraft windows.
+ Responsible for designing the whole range of manufacturing and process tools from customer supplied models or digitized data from customer tools using various scanning, reverse engineering & CAD software tools (SolidWorks preferred).
+ Design for production efficiency, creating new tooling concepts when necessary, and removes obsolete outdated tool designs whenever possible.
+ Translate wire frame and solid model CAD data to a format from which CAD operators can create tool drawings and templates.
+ Use custom and general-purpose CAD software tools to perform necessary data manipulations and post processing to yield machining programs for tools and parts on various CNC machines.
+ Maintain design files and documentation for each tool and part for which he has responsibility, preferably through the use of Product Data Management software tools such as SolidWorks PDM.
+ Contribute in the development and evaluation of engineering software tools for the purpose of data analysis and manipulation in order to streamline the tool design and analysis process.
+ Collaborate with the Tooling Cell to define tool material and fabrication requirements and overs e the actual tool fabrication when necessary. Along with the Tooling Manager, Design & Development Engineers and Process Improvement Engineers to determine tooling requirements for programs, including schedules and cost estimates, and will determine what, if any outside resources are needed to support the tooling requirements in order to meet schedules.
+ Support other manufacturing personnel to support Manufacturing with troubleshooting, re-designs, and upgrades of existing tooling.
+ Maintain contact with PPG customers through sales engineers to determine data requirements and verification.
+ Use state of the art CAD technology, along with 3 and 5 axis machine programming expertise, to develop tooling for all new programs, as well as upgrade existing tooling for Aircraft Products.
+ Support Manufacturing activities as needed on all 3 and 5 axis machining centers and other CNC equipment as necessary.
+ Provide the technical expertise necessary to inspect existing parts and tools and to reverse engineer customer tools utilizing Coordinate Measuring Machine technology (both laser and hard probe) preferably utilizing Creaform's VX suite and/or Geomagic's Design-X/Control-X suite of products.
+ Must be a highly motivated individual with a background in the use of Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacturing, and Coordinate Measuring Machine technologies preferably in aircraft parts.
