We are seeking an experienced and versatile software engineer to lead a development team focused on supporting highly technical research application tasks. This role will be responsible for managing (or overseeing) technical execution of projects, identifying and mitigating project risks, providing guidance/mentorship to other developers, and helping improve the overall software development effort for the organization. The position will work closely with Principle Investigators, Program Managers, and Corporate leadership to understand the technology being developed and deliver the best possible working software prototype with in the given customer constraints. This position requires strong leadership skills in order to lead a multi-skilled, complex, technical team of individuals. Demonstrated communication, prioritization, organization skills, as well as the ability to be flexible and responsive in a fast-paced environment are abilities that will lead to success in this role. This position also requires superior capability in Development, Documentation, Integration, Debugging and Testing. Responsibilities: Contribute to the development of software that implements various technologies for multiple research and development projects.Provide guidance and direction to software engineering staff in the execution of software engineering functions related to various R&D projectsLead technology discussions and decisions in regard to software architecture and technology development methodologyPosition will be responsible for continuing improvement/implementation of best practices with respect to software development, documentation and testing as part of the overall responsibility for mitigation strategies, ensuring high quality deliverables are provided on time and within budget.Manage the Agile development process, including interacting with multiple stakeholders to ensure resources are managed effectively, project status is communicated, and work plans align with customer expectations Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (or similar discipline) and at least 5 years of relevant experience (Advanced Degrees maybe substituted for experience)At least 1 year of experience leading software managing technical staff and managing technical staffExpertise developing and compiling in a Linux environment including multiple project experience implementing Linux DistributionsExperience with (or demonstrated ability to quickly adopt) a variety of relevant languages and related libraries, including Java, C++, GNU g++/gfortran compilers, GNU Scientific Library (GSL)Experience developing relevant technologies and protocols, including APIs, scripts and wrappers, pre/post processing, V&V and test plansPosition requires candidate to be a US Citizen Preferred Requirements:Expertise related to development efforts supporting DoD test environments is preferredActive Security Clearance is a plusExperience with scientific software application development is a significant advantage.Benefits:CFDRC offers competitive salaries and excellent employee benefits, including an employer matching 401(k) and Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
