PC Support Technician

Description

The PCSupport Technician (PST) is responsible for performing tasks which requiretouching the desktop. Given that this position physically interfaces with thecustomer, a professional, courteous demeanor is required in all circumstances. The selected candidate must:

  • Possess excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and telephone etiquette

  • Above average ability to interpret, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems

  • Be decisive, conscientious and interact well in a team environment or training capacity

  • Have a strong desire to learn and be able to follow policies and procedures

  • Demonstrate the ability to work well with a minimal amount of supervision

  • Have a strong working knowledge of and experience with computer hardware, software and peripheral devices in a diverse environment

  • Provide a high level of interfacing with co-workers, and communicate effectively with the clients, IT personnel and management

Theselected candidate will

  • Provide direct customer service and technical support to users as required via phone, e-mail, fax, on-line systems and in person

  • Provide professional and personal assistance to clients in answering inquiries, locating information and analyzing technical requirements

  • Provide prompt responses to users for problem resolution or accepting trouble reports and assigning Help Desk Tickets

  • Inform users of pertinent network information including planned network downtime

  • Perform other hardware and software tasks as assigned

A PST’smain technology emphasis should be to:

  • Maintain skill set required to do job

  • Maintain an awareness of trends within the technology industry

  • Provide front line support for organization via in person/phone/email/software

  • Route incoming service desk tickets to correct functional area

  • Utilize Active Directory to reset passwords

  • Wipe and configure Blackberry devices

  • Configure and install new PCs, installation of needed peripherals and software, and physical attachment of PC to network

  • Provide remote support to end users

  • Imaging and deployment of new machines

  • Perform other hardware and software tasks as assigned

Thisposition is classified as Information Assurance Technical Level II. The following certifications will be requiredfor this position:

  • IABaseline Certifications: CompTIA Security CE

  • ComputingEnvironment Certifications: HDI: Support Center Analyst

Leadership/Direction:Activities will be directed, monitored, outlined and supervised by a moresenior PST or lead. Works under general supervision. A level I technicianshould have prior knowledge of the desktop operating systems and applicationsin use at the work location. Follows standard work methods on recurringassignments and receives instructions on unfamiliar assignments. Generalunderstanding of software installation and usage is also necessary. PST 1’swill require advice and or expertise from higher level technicians from time totime.

Activities: Using their general knowledge ofhardware/software, a PST should be able to resolve many of the less complicatedtickets. This position will start on the Customer Service phones for first linecontact with users. During off-peaktimes, a PST should exhibit an interest in working with upper level techniciansand engineers on more complicated issues. All safety policies must be strictlyadhered to.

Qualifications

Thisposition requires an Associates degree from a university in a relatedscientific or engineering discipline with 1 years of progressive experience, ora total of 3 years of related experience. A CompTIA Security CE certificationis required. HDI: Support Center Analyst certification is also required but maybe obtained within 6 months of hire.

Theminimum of an active interim Secret or Secret level DoD security clearance isrequired.
