nGeneral Summaryn



This position is responsible for providing general research support in the post-life laboratories. The Assistant Technician - Pathology and Histology must have a demonstrated understanding of scientific research and methods, proficiency in a limited set of laboratory techniques, and proven ability to work well within a team. This position will report directly to the Supervisor, Pathology and Histology.

nKey Responsibilities:n

n

+ Observe and execute activities consistent with study protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or Laboratory Methods, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations, and safety and health practices.

n

+ Successfully demonstrate application of newly learned skills and knowledge of basic study design and execution with quality on a consistent basis.

n

+ Execute assigned activities on a study following appropriate procedures.


nPosition Specific:n

n

+ Provide histological services following appropriate procedures by processing tissues for histological diagnostic research , including

n

+ Trimming tissues

n

+ Embedding, microtomy and staining of tissues

n

+ Cover slipping tissues

n

+ Labeling slides and blocks







n

+ Gathering and reviewing experimental data

n

+ Necropsy of rodentsat animalbiosafety levels 1, 2, or 3, as required

n

+ Collection of biological samples including samples for proteomic/genomic analysis and electron microscopy

n

+ Gathering and reviewing experimental data including organ weights and anatomical changes

n

+ Dependent on Divisional resource availability, the Assistant Technician - Pathology and Histology may be responsible for additional activities, including but not limited to:

n

+ Perform maternal evaluations (laparohysterectomy) and teratology evaluations (fetal external, visceral, and skeletal morphology) in rodents and rabbits

n

+ Collect samples and specimens at c-section and necropsy.

n

+ Perform processing and examination of fetal skeletal specimens.







nRequirements/Minimum Qualifications:n

n

+ High school diploma or GED

n

+ One year of related experience in histology (trimming, embedding, microtomy, staining techniques) or necropsy (prosector experience).

n

+ Demonstrates knowledge and application of standard scientific principles, theories, and concepts.

n

+ Ability to work in a team environment.

n

+ Able to work overtime, weekends, holidays when necessary.

n

+ Demonstrates proficiency in commonly used computer programs (e.g., WORD, EXCEL).
